Comments on the Need for Advanced Coal Technologies
WASHINGTON, D.C. – CoalBlue Project President Jon Wood issued the following comment in response to remarks made today by Department of Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz at the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) in Morgantown, WV:
“CoalBlue Project has been formed to promote the essential role of coal in America’s sustainable energy future, and to enhance the investment in and deployment of advanced coal technologies. Our nation can achieve a clean energy future only if clean, sustainable coal is part of the mix. CoalBlue applauds Secretary Moniz’s recognition of coal an essential element of our nation’s energy future, and that any serious discussion of America’s clean energy future must include coal and the development sustainable coal technologies. We look forward to working with the Secretary and others in the Executive Branch to spur meaningful and needed investment in advanced coal technologies.”
In remarks prepared for delivery at NETL, Secretary Moniz said, “Coal and other fossil fuels…will be a major part of our energy future for decades.” He also commented that “No discussion of U.S. energy security and reducing global CO2 emissions is complete without talking about coal – and the technologies that will allow us to use this resource more efficiently and with fewer greenhouse gas emissions.”
